ABOUT THE TRAVEL & SERVICE PROGRAMS

Chimney Corners and Camp Becket campers come together in their TSP year to travel on offsite programs around the world. These programs are for campers finishing 10th grade who want to develop their leadership skills, explore new places, and connect with other cultures.

With an emphasis on the small group experience, TSP offers a supportive environment for participants to explore the world and develop themselves as young adults. Core components of every program include leadership development, cultural and environmental engagement, and service learning.

Eligibility

TSP Programs are educational experiences that require a high level of maturity and responsibility from each participant. Participation in the program requires an application process that is completed each Fall. Campers are admitted to programs based on past camp experience, demonstrated leadership potential, physical and mental health eligibility, maturity, cooperation with others, ability to meet registration/application deadlines, and the desire to experience and understand other cultures. We encourage you to reach out to us if you have questions about your child’s readiness to participate in these programs.

Our Trip Leaders

Each of our travel programs is led by two adults who have proven to be caring and competent individuals. We look for Trip Leaders who have been recognized as positive role models for teens, are mature, responsible, and able to problem-solve effectively. Many of our leaders have grown up through our camps and those who come from outside the BCCYMCA community bring a variety of experiences that make them qualified for these programs including teaching experience, outdoor leadership, trip guiding, and social work. All of our leaders go through a training program prior to the start of the program and are certified in WFA, CPR, and lifeguarding where applicable for the program.
