The 2005 Summer Begins!
During Camp Becket’s first week we’ve had a little of everything – heat and humidity, thunder and lightning, beautiful sunsets and lots of activity!
On Opening Night the staff welcomed the campers in traditional Becket fashion, singing a rousing rendition of Opening Today (to the tune of Comedy Tonight).
The first chapel service of the session focused on Opportunities – Dave DeLuca shared his To Do list with the entire community – a list that included such items as learning to sail a JY-15, going on an overnight with a cabin group and sampling every flavor of fruitful bar at the camp store.
On Monday campers signed up for their afternoon activities. For the next 36 hours the Program Staff labored to place 289 boys in six activities each – a huge task! Activities began on Tuesday afternoon.
Wednesday brought a huge rainstorm that kept campers and staff inside for a good portion of the afternoon. We switched to village activities to keep campers busy.
The rest of the week brought better weather – blue skies, a gentle breeze and much less humidity. Great camp weather!
Cabins began going out on overnights around Rudd Pond. Each afternoon, boys participated in more than 30 different skill-building activities.
The end of the week was full of anticipation for the upcoming Fourth of July festivities.
More about that will come in next week’s installment of Camp Becket – The Week that Was |
