The first snow falls came last night, but they did not delay construction at the dining hall site. Work on the basement floor has begun, with interior supports being built this week. The dining hall is beginning to take shape.

The final side of the foundation walls are being completed this week, and again, the fine weather has allowed us to move well ahead of schedule. Structural steel has been ordered and will be delivered on time, so this building looks like it will be completed ahead of time summer nest year.
If you haven't yet, please be sure to look at the artist's rendering pdf.

The foundation walls continue to go up under where the kitchen will be. This wall will retain the surrounding soil but will also support the heavier weight of the kitchen. Construction continues to be ahead of schedule.

Concrete reinforcing is in place and the taller foundation walls that will be located under the kitchen will be poured in the coming days at Chimney Corners. This aggressive schedule will allow a shell to be completed before the winter months set in so that work may continue right through the year.

The work being completed up until now includes the removal of an old sewer line and new placement of that sewer line that serves the southern half of Chimney Corners Camp. Of course, the work on this sewer line complements work being done simultaneously on the BCCYMCA Wastewater Treatment Center alongside YMCA Road. Stay tuned for project reports on the Wastewater Treatment Center.

The weather has been perfect for this type of work, and Allegrone are taking advantage of the opportunity to continue to skip ahead of the schedule. Here you can see the forms for the foundation at the front wall, closet to the lake. Within a few days, this foundation will really take shape.

With the boulders and other rock now out of the way, work has begun on the foundation of the building. As you can see, placings have been created and the basic layout of the building can already been seen. The Dining Hall is now ahead of schedule, with workers still running 7am until 7pm days.
If you haven't yet, please be sure to look at the artist's rendering pdf.

Allegrone have spent time dynamiting apart giant granite boulders and clearing the way for the foundation of our new Dining Hall. Parts of camp were closed during the blasting last week, and the rock has now been cleared. The plan is to build the foundation for the Dining Hall and then construct a shell that would allow the workers to continue constructing through the snowy winter months. This shell will also protect the foundation from the extreme cold.

Working 12 hours a day to begin with, crews are now digging at the site for the new Chimney Corners Camp Dining Hall. Within a week or so, we will be ready to begin pouring the foundation for the 16,000 square feet facility.
One of the most important things we have kept in mind when designing and negotiating features of this new dining hall is that we want the "Chimney Magic" to be present in the new building. We don't doubt that this is the case with the facility. At the same time, our facility needs to be useful to our year-round operation... and it is!
If you haven't yet, please be sure to look at the artist's rendering pdf.
Stay tuned for a Macromedia Flash presentation of the construction, coming over the next couple of months.
