The
plaque honoring Jeanne and Don Shellenberger for their
18 year commitment to Chimney Corners Camp was one of
the few items salvaged from the fire.
The
morning the fire marshal released the fire site, Shannon
Donovan-Monti and Emily King ventured down to the site
to look for the plaque. The plaque was missing from the
chimney which was the only thing still standing after
the fire. Many feared that the plaque had melted in the
heat of the fire.
Shannon
and Emily dug through the snow and other debris and found
the plaque and after carefully removing the debris found,
to their surprise, that the plaque had survived the fire.
The
plaque will be placed in the new Dining Hall and will
carry the memories of the past forward.
