Congratulations on your new position with Berkshire Outdoor Center. We are excited to meet you, get to know you and work along-side you. Here is some helpful information as you transition to life in the Berkshires.

The Administration Center is where we’ll meet when you arrive. It is located at 748 Hamilton Road, Becket, MA 01223 – if you’re driving, follow your GPS to this address and you’ll end up in the right place.

If you are flying in, the closest two airports are Bradley International Airport (BDL) in Hartford, CT or Albany International Airport (ALB) in Albany, NY. We will pick you up from either of these airports for a fee*, with significant advanced notice.

You may also choose to fly into Boston (BOS) or any of the NYC airports (JFK, LGA or EWR), and can make your own way to us. Peter Pan Bus Lines operates out of Boston and NYC and has a stop in Lee, MA. Lee is about 15 minutes from our campus and we will pick you up there for free, with significant advanced notice.

Please be mindful when making your travel arrangements – we don’t want you to land in an unfamiliar city after the last bus has departed. If you would prefer to be picked up from Boston or New York City, we can send someone to get you for a fee*.

Regardless of your chosen airport, please share your flight details with us as soon as you have them so that we can schedule your pick-up and start date accordingly.

*This fee covers the costs (fuel and employee hours) of your pick-up.

We offer a variety of accommodation for staff but all of our housing has this in common: each room has a twin bed, some drawers for storage, closet space, access to a refrigerator and microwave (if not more complete kitchen appliances.) We have coin operated laundry facilities on site and will provide 21 meals a week for you to eat. We also have Wi-Fi (reliably) in our Administration Building and (unreliably) in our two dining halls. All accommodation is shared.

  • Bedding for twin bed (pillow, sheets, blanket/sleeping bag – it gets quite cold)
  • Towels
  • Warm weather clothes
  • Cool weather clothes (non-cotton recommended)
  • Rain coat/rain gear
  • Closed toe shoes
  • Toiletries

  • Pets
  • Weapons
  • Fireworks

  • Waterproof boots or shoes
  • Water bottle
  • Flashlight
  • Swimsuit

  • Bike and helmet (helmet mandatory)
  • Camping gear/Sports equipment
  • Musical instrument
  • Board or card games
  • Your own unique teambuilding supplies (we provide basics)

Please note: while we live in a relatively crime-free environment, we don’t recommend you bring valuables – we are not responsible for your items while they’re here and they are not insured by us.

When you arrive, we will need to copy your identification documents as outlined in the USCIS I-9, so please bring them with you on the first morning of training.

You will also need to choose between direct deposit into a US bank account or a RapidPay Visa card. If you prefer direct deposit, you’ll need to provide us with either a voided check, or Bank Routing Number and Bank Account Numbers

Plan to arrive at the Administration building with your paperwork, USCIS I-9 approved identification documents and (hopefully) a whole lot of enthusiasm over your new adventure! On that first day, we will provide you with a staff manual, a notebook and pen and lots of other goodies.

Please wear closed-toe shoes, consider bringing a water bottle and remember, unless there is thunder and lightning, plan on being outside for a portion of the day – dress accordingly!

We hope this has been helpful. Please call or email with questions and know how much we look forward to your arrival.
