Regular Programs
Starter Program: This 2-week program is for boys who have finished the 2nd or 3rd grade in preparation for a 4-week stay in subsequent summers. Two cabins in our youngest village are set aside for this program, which is integrated into our traditional camp schedule. There is no Dads’ Weekend component to the Starter Program. This program is filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
4-Week Program: At Becket, the 4-week camp experience is at the heart of what we do. Campers live in groups of 8-9 with two staff members. They eat, sleep, play, and learn as a group. Meals and cabin activities are well-planned. Afternoons are spent in activities chosen by each boy. We sing a song called 'Amici' at the end of village or all-camp activities. Loosely translated, 'Amici' means 'friend'; Becketites have been singing this song together since the 1950's. Cabin Chat is our end-of-day ritual, a candlelight discussion led by counselors in the cabin before bedtime.

Specialty Cabins
Construction Cabin: This program offers new opportunities for for campers who have completed the 8th or 9th grade. Supervised by a foreman, the groups build a new building each summer. Achievement accompanies instruction in the use of hand and power tools, construction mathematics, and basic carpentry skills. Boys spend 2 hours each day on the project and the rest in regular camp activities. Participants must bring work boots, a hammer, tape measure, and a tool belt; hard hats are provided by camp.
Climbing Cabin: This program is open to boys who have completed grades 7-9 and is designed for those with an interest in acquiring or improving climbing skills. Extensive challenge facilities are available at both Becket and Chimney Corners. Off-site trips to local climbing spots are included. Trained staff accompany this learning opportunity; climbing shoes are not mandatory, but do improve a climbers efforts.

Travel and Service Programs
Domestic and international travel opportunities are available for campers completing grades 9-11. More information may be found on theTravel and Service Programs page.
Leadership Programs
Service Corps: Initiated in 2003 to mark Becket's Centennial, this 4-week program engages boys in meaningful service projects within camp and in the greater Berkshire County area. The boys also work with cabin groups, assist in afternoon activities, and volunteer at the Becket Day Camp. This program is an excellent means to bridge the gap between camper and staff member.
Aides: Former campers who have completed the 10th grade may apply for the Aides Program. The Aides spend 8 1/2 weeks learning hands-on about the operation of a resident camp. They assist in leading camp activities and eventually plan and run their own. An important aspect of this program is learning to live and work together as a group. Aides receive lifeguard training and are expected to return to camp as staff members the following summer.
Staff: Joining the staff is the final step in many Becket careers. The majority of our domestic staff are returnees, strengthening our programs with their experiences as campers. Our international staff work in both support and cabin roles, bringing cultural diversity to the community. All staff are interviewed, screened, and specifically trained for their positions. |
