Camp Becket > Programs > Regular Camp

At Becket, the 4-week camp experience is at the heart of what we do. Campers live in groups of 8-9 with two staff members. They eat, sleep, play, and learn as a group. Meals and cabin activities are well-planned. Afternoons are spent in activities chosen by each boy. We sing a song called 'Amici' at the end of village or all-camp activities. Loosely translated, 'Amici' means 'friend'; Becketites have been singing this song together since the 1950's. Cabin Chat is our end-of-day ritual, a candlelight discussion led by counselors in the cabin before bedtime.
This 2-week program is for boys who have finished the 2nd or 3rd grade in preparation for a 4-week stay in subsequent summers. Two cabins in our youngest village are set aside for this program, which is integrated into our traditional camp schedule. There is no Dads' Weekend component to the Starter A Program. This program is filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Within camp there are opportunities for campers to participate in both on camp and off camp trips. All trips are developed for cabin groups. A trip is a great way to grow as a group and accomplish cabin goals.

Overnights are the first step in our tripping program.
Every
cabin
group will participate in an on camp overnight experience on our
property. Overnights are the only trip program available to Iroquois
campers.
Around Rudd Pond there are four
Adirondack style
lean-to shelters, all of which are unique. Some are more wooded, some
offer the ability to swim or go off the rope swing, and some are better
for star gazing. Cabins will hike out and cook dinner, have s'mores,
and enjoy a cabin chat around a campfire.

The goals of our off site trips are the same as those for our on
site trips. By increasing the challenge and by visiting different
environments, we renew the chances for campers who have become familiar
with our facilities to grow and mature.
Campers in
Pioneer Village will have the opportunity as a cabin group, with their two counselors and a Trip Guide, to pack a bag lunch and head out into the Berkshires for the day. Cabins may hike Mt. Greylock, Sanderson Brook Falls, Bash Bish Falls, and other local State Parks. We
recommend investing in
sturdy hiking boots, a
water bottle, and bringing a
day bag such as a school backpack.
Campers in
Frontier Village will in
addition
to an on camp overnight have the opportunity to build upon cabin
skills. Cabins will be able to take what has been learned in camp and
continue to grow individually and as a group. Cabins will participate
as a group with their two counselors and an experienced Tripping Guide.
Campers will equally split food and camping gear and share the work
setting up the camp site. Group equipment such as tents, cooking gear, and
backpacks are provided by camp. It is
recommended that
sturdy hiking
boots and a
packable sleeping bag be brought to camp as both will be used
multiple times and throughout the camp experience. Trips will take place within a couple hours
of camp on the Appalachian Trail in MA and CT or the Long Trail in VT.
Our oldest campers in Ranger Village will in addition to an on camp overnight have the opportunity to challenge themselves and build on previous off site trip knowledge learned in previous summers. Cabins will travel on the Appalachian trail from North Adams, MA and travel to Mt. Greylock and reach the highest point in Massachusetts. It is recommended that sturdy hiking boots and a packable sleeping bag be brought to camp as both will be used multiple times and throughout the camp experience.
